CLASSES TAUGHT BY AMBER FOX WHO HAS WRITTEN & REVIEWED NAPLAN AND UNSW ICAS TESTS
Writing 9:30am - 11:30am OR 3pm - 5pm
* The focus is on persuasive and narrative texts
* I explicitly teach:
- text-type structure (narrative/persuasive)
- how to plan, write and edit writing in the 20 test time allowed for scholarship and selective high school test
- how to structure paragraphs using the TEEL/PEEL method
- how to elaborate on points and to back each point up with evidence and examples
- how to effectively use adjectives, adverbs, similes, metaphors and rhetorical questions as well as accurate punctuation, grammar and spelling.
* Writing is assessed using a comprehensive, criterion-based marking sheet as used by markers for NAPLAN, ICAS, Selective High School and Scholarship exams
* Every child receives individual attention, unlike other tutoring companies
Duration: 9:30am - 11:30am OR 3pm - 5pm (Monday January 11 - Friday January 15, 2021)
Cost: $550 + GST for 5-day course
English (2pm - 3pm)
• Students are given challenging comprehension texts covering all genres
* Students are taught proven and effective strategies to answer literal and inferential comprehension questions
* Every child receives individual attention, unlike other tutoring companies
Duration: 2pm - 3pm (Monday January 11 - Friday January 15, 2021)
Cost: $275 + GST for 5-day course
Mathematics (12:30pm - 1:30pm)
* I teach and revise key stage 3 maths concepts
* Students are given challenging selective/scholarship-style maths questions
* Every child receives individual attention, unlike other tutoring companies
Duration: 12:30pm - 1:30pm (Monday January 11 - Friday January 15, 2021)

General Ability (11:30am - 12:30pm)
* The focus is on working through challenging GA questions addressing:
• Spatial reasoning skills (numerical reasoning)
• Logical thinking (numerical reasoning)

• Syntax (verbal reasoning)
• Language forms (verbal reasoning)

NAPLAN /ICAS INTENSIVE PREPARATION COURSE, APRIL 5-9, 2021 (5 DAYS)

Writing - Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 (3pm - 5pm)
* Prior to the course, all new students undergo comprehensive writing assessments so I can identify their specific strengths and weaknesses
* Writing is assessed using a comprehensive, criterion-based marking sheet as used by markers for NAPLAN, ICAS, Selective High School and Scholarship exams
* Tutoring is tailored to the unique academic needs of the group
* Every child receives individual attention, unlike other tutoring companies * The focus is on persuasive and narrative texts

* Students are taught proven and effective strategies to answer literal and inferential comprehension questions * Students are given challenging language conventions questions covering spelling, grammar and punctuation
Duration: 2pm - 3pm
Cost: $275 + GST for 5-day course
Mathematics - Years 3 and 5 (1pm - 2pm)
* Prior to the course, all new students undergo comprehensive diagnostic maths assessments to identify their specific strengths and weaknesses in maths
* Parents are given comprehensive feedback and I recommend high-quality, post-course textbooks to address the specific gaps their child needs to address prior to the NAPLAN exam
* I teach and revise key maths concepts based on the assessment results and learning needs of the group. Individual attention is given.
* Students are given challenging NAPLAN-style maths questions
